Earthquake, tsunami, nuclear disaster… Yet the nightmare isn’t over.
With the help of over 3,000 children and adults we tried to do something for Japan. For every donation, whatever the amount, we made an origami crane bird (tsuru) – every tsuru a wish for health and strength.
Altogether we received more than 6,000 tsuru! 1,000 of these were taken to Japan in March by Dwight Lodeweges, coach at Chiba’s JEF United soccer team. Deze slideshow heeft JavaScript nodig.
Meanwhile, Miga too has gone home to Japan.
She arranged for two crane bundles to be sent to Sendai, the epicentre of the earthquake. Finally, in July, the last three crane bundles were delivered to the victims.

Tsuru:
Dutch people send postcards to other people using words like ‘take care’, ‘get well soon’ and ‘good luck’. In a similar way, Japanese people give origami crane birds to others. And 1000 tsuru mean that your wish comes true.
For every donation, we made a paper crane bird (‘tsuru’) on your behalf. You could have your wish written on the tsuru. We arranged for the tsuru to be sent to the tsunami victims in Japan, to show them your support.
From the start of our action 6 primary schools, 1 high school, a church group and many visitors to our homes have enthousiastically helped us make the tsuru and tie them together. To the extend that we in the end had over 6,000 paper cranes, put together in six bundles of 1,000 each.
We are grateful for so many crane birds!
Also we were impressed and moved by the support we received from so many people, men, women and children alike, who stood by us to help us achieve these results. Compassion translated into helping hands. We want to carry this thought on to Japan.
